What wetsuits are ideal for surfing in Australia?

I am in the uk and have a shortie wet suit thats about 2 maybe 3 mm thick, would this be good enough to use in australia or do i need something different. starting in perth mid october and will follow the sunshine around the country in an anti-clockwise dirrection say dec- melbourne, jan-taz, feb/jul- up the east coast.
