How do I prepare to work at a surf shop? Currently, I live in Hartford County, Connecticut in the United States, but next year I'm going to school in South Australia. I'd love to work at a surf shop sometime while I'm there, but I obviously can't gain any experience at a surf shop here. I cannot commute a hour a day to the Connecticut coastline to work at any water sport shops or beaches. I want to have some experience in the field, because I know that many college students apply to the surf shops in Adelaide's Central Business District. How do I better qualify myself for the job?

Question about miniature turtle (purchased from "surf shop")? We just got back from Florida and my daughter came back with a baby (miniature?) turtle (which was purchased from a "surf shop"). After reading more on my return, I realize the chances of this little turtle surviving are against us, but we are really trying to take care of this new family pet. We have the "habitat" set up (fresh de-chlorinated water), rocks for "sunning", heat lamp....I've read that their food needs to be in the water for them to eat it, so we take the turtle out to feed it, but we cannot tell that the turtle is eating...There does appear to be some "poop",but I am not sure how much is normal...some websites tell us to feed it several times a day, others say once a day, others still say a couple days between feedings?? Anyone know of a reliable site to get info from? Thanks for any help! ETA: I was so surprised to read that the sale of these is illegal...they are out in plain site with the hermit crabs in these surf shops, and I saw them at more than one location. Thanks for all of the information. I had read on one site that you needed to take the turtle out of it's normal cage to feed it (in another container of water)...but I have since read other conflicting information, so I will not be doing that again. Of course, the place it was bought just gave us turtle food, like you buy in the pet store, but it seems like that is not the best option. Thanks for all the responses!
